INSURANCE FOR PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERS THAT PERMIT CAMPING AND RELATED ACTIVITIES ON THEIR LAND
Owners of private property campgrounds are finding it increasingly difficult to afford or even obtain insurance cover to appropriately protect their campground business and personal assets and relying on the cover provided by other booking platforms, whose policies suggest you may not be insured if you charge a fee for camping, does little to protect landowners who have invested their entire lives into their properties.
A Division of the Camping, Outdoors and Accommodation Cooperative (COA Coop), the Campground Operators Association (COA) was established as a result of this difficulty and insufficiency and organises Group Insurance Programs (GIPs) to make getting public liability cover for private campgrounds easier and cheaper. A GIP is an effective way for an organisation and with the might of its members, to leverage their group buying power and negotiate high quality, tailored insurance arrangements, at reduced rates.
COA is also working with its partners to provide an all Australian online campsite booking system, which will provide liability insurance cover with each booking. Keep an eye on the COA Insurance Facebook page for updates as this will be released soon.
COA helps landowners to get public liability insurance for their private property camping operation, and they can also get property cover, which recognises the activities of their camping operation and vice versa. The majority of insurers in Australia are now unlikely to insure your property if you permit camping and related activities on your land, but thankfully COA is here and can help you get the cover you should have.
For just one small membership fee of $490, which contributes to the GIP master policy, private property owners are entitled to apply through COA's insurance partner and obtain their very own APRA approved $20M public liability insurance policy to be appropriately covered when permitting camping and related activities on their land. This means private property owners that also have a camping operation on their land can be assured of getting the best cover available through an all Australian organisation, which exists to serve its members.
